Wow, it's a whole new year. Must be time for an update, huh?

We had a decent holiday; Rusty got me a gold chain as well as a keyboard (piano) for me and Sarah. We also got her a Cabbage Patch doll (now named Emily Alice) and Dora the Explorer Legos. And I got an iolite (oooh. purple!) ring, a glass heart-shaped paperweight (also purple), two tee-shirts, and a cool 3D jigsaw puzzle from my mom. It was nice, and laid-back for us.

I've decided to replace the 65-gallon reef tank with a 75-gallon. While it's only ten gallons difference in water volume, it's an extra foot for active swimmers. However, the big selling point is, the tank is more shallow than the 65, hence, easier for me to work in.

That jigsaw puzzle thing looks really neat. I don't think I've seen a 3-d puzzle out of the box.

The pieces are neat; they're plastic-coated and very bright. Here is the page for the 3D puzzles - http://www.hobbicopuzzles.com/visecho.html - I have the clownfish one too. :)

Ooh...I just looked at their example of what it's like to look at the 3d effect...that is cool.

I just introduced a 100-piece kitty puzzle to my son...and I've been meaning to get a few more. Maybe we can move on up.

[weekend update] 1/3/2005 4:15:00 PM

Well, the long holiday weekend went as well as could be expected when two already-volatile people (one of them with raging pms) are trapped in a house together for four. straight. days.

Thursday - Rusty was sick and stayed home. Oh joy. I went to Walmart and bought a printer.

Friday - We went to Winchester and checked tank prices. Spent the evening doing the same stuff we always do (video games and the computer). It was rather unceremonious, but nice.

Saturday - I printed some photos with my new printer. They're not awful, but I can tell that they've been printed on a home printer. I think I will use this one for documents, and when I have more money, I am going to get one of those little HP portables for photos. Or something.

Sunday - We went to Hagerstown and checked tank prices at Pugh's. The 75-gallon setup was $30 cheaper there (on sale), but I don't think it's worth the difference, since we will have to actually make TWO trips (one with the tank itself and another with the stand), plus leave the daughter with Jamie while we make them. And hauling large tanks in the back of a tiny Nissan Sentra is NO fun at all, so closer is definately better, unless there's a HUGE savings at stake.

Anyway, after Pugh's, we stopped at AC Moore, where I bought the Fiskars Shape Cutter (for scrapbooking), as well as the Stars, Hearts, and Frames templates for it. Fun! Then we went to Walmart, where Rusty bought me a really nice lightbox and some new pens for scrapbooking. I ordered three more shape templates when we got home, as well as a Terrible Towel, which has nothing to do with scrapbooking, but is a notable purchase never the less.

Retail therapy, baybeee.

[the problem with hobbies] 1/4/2005 12:55:00 PM

This is my problem. Whenever I start a new hobby (or in the case of scrapbooking, re-start an old hobby), I go to the computer and find out all the information about said hobby. I become engrossed in all the stuff there is to learn about the hobby. I wander from link to link (there's always another link to explore!), and admire how other people are utilizing the hobby. I buy all sorts of paraphenalia related to the hobby, and containers to sort it all in. I join all the forums, and subscribe to all the newsletters and groups, and make special email filters and folders to keep it all sorted from all my other hobbies and interests that I've done this before with. And before it's all said and done, I'll probably have made a website dedicated to the hobby.

But I never actually - DO - the hobby. In the case of scrapbooking, I am far too busy admiring others' layouts and "getting ideas" to ever work on my own pages. And by the time I finally run out of links to click, I'll be bored with the whole thing, and I will have to find a new hobby to obsess about but not actually participate in, and the cycle will start all over again.

I swear, this computer is eating my life...

I get halfway done and quit. Want any half-finished crochet hats or a REALLY skinny scarf? lol

I actually have some of those, thanks. I can balance them precariously on my head whilst I peruse my old crochet communities and forums and books... ;)

It's a REALLY annoying habit - for my family as much as me, I'm sure. lol
