I woke up this morning to find that Rusty had left the door ajar. Mojo was sitting in the doorway and Max was already outside! Fortunately, he hadn't gotten far, because I would have to kill Rusty if anything had happened to that cat. What a doofus.

I have a bunch of shit to do today, and no motivation to do anything. I need to pay the rent, pay the phone bill, and get Sarah's portraits taken. I also need to go to the petstore and buy Carefrash for the rats and Stress Coat for the fish, and maybe talk to the aquarium guy about Bob the betta, who seems to have fin rot. :(

Drove to the bank; it sucked because it was really windy and I'm still driving my grandmother's tiny little Nissan. I had a hell of a time keeping it on the road. I stopped at PetsMart in Winchester. Bought four small bags of Carefresh - my god that shit is expensive! But I hate aspen shavings with a passion and that was my only other choice. I also got another bottle of Stress Coat and a bottle of stuff that says it helps with fin rot. I hope it does, I don't want to lose my fishies!

Got back into Martinsburg, mailed the rent check and paid the phone bill. Stopped home to find that my Kitty Loaf Invasion tee-shirt had arrived, hooray! Off again...

Took Sarah in for her portraits, and had to wait while two little male brats had theirs done. I did some grocery shopping while I waited, but they were still there when I was done. When they finally got done, one of the adults (a mother or aunt, I guess) told the photographer that she sucked, and with just a little more time, the little brats would not have been screaming monsters. Or something like that. By the time Sarah got in, SHE was getting crabby, from waiting, and because she was missing her nap. A couple of them aren't bad though, and at least it's done for another three months.

And then I ran into the mall and got another three holes punched in my ears - two more in the lobes and another cartilage piercing. I'm up to eight holes now! I think I'm done with my ears, except I want to get one more - a larger gauge helix piercing in my other (right ear). All the holes that I have now have simple 14k gold balls and hoops, and I want one cartilage piercing that I can put a circular barbell or spiral or something in. I just need to find a good piercer for that one.

After that, it'll be the nose, the navel, and the tongue, for an even dozen. =)

This song (or at least the Neil Young version) makes me think of Norman. He was an alchoholic that I befriended and slept with when Rusty and I split up several years ago. I was working at a porn shop, and he liked Neil Young, and I ordered a greatest hits CD that had this song on it. We used to sit on the roof of our apartment building (over the porn shop) and talk. Norman was one of those guys, he was completely and totally wrong for me, and yet, we had a connection. I wonder what ever happened to him. Last I heard, he was headed to Florida. I still think about him.

I have accomplished absolutely nothing today. I needed to clean the rat cages and do a partial water change in the goldfish tank, but I didn't. I needed to vacuum, but I didn't. I needed to clean off the counter and set up the new microwave, but I didn't. I needed to at least wash the dishes so I can fix dinner this evening, but I didn't.

In other news, Anne emailed me; Cheerio made it to NYC safe and sound. She really likes him, and said he's getting along well, hooray! I now have rats in Texas, New York, Michigan, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Wow.

There is a small petstore in town here, I don't like it, but my mom says she's had good luck with their fish. I think Bella is pregnant! I have her, Beatrix, and Bea's daughter in a cage together, getting extra good stuff to eat. Bea's boys are now living in one of the barn tops with their Uncle Brutus, who is tolerant but less-than-thrilled with his new charges.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with the "extra" boy from Bea's litter. Two breeders are interested, but I don't really like either of them. That's if I keep three of the four remaining boys; Baxter, Bixby, and Eye Patch. I'm also not sure if I'm going to keep the one girl or try to find her a home that already has rats. Decisions, decisions...

Stayed up late talking to Laurie on the phone, and now my ear hurts! Not from the conversation, but from having the phone pressed against fresh piercings. Our phone is cheap and poorly shaped, so I think that was the reason. I need to soak my ear in sea salt water, and I need to buy a new phone.

I also need to finish cleaning out the betta tank. I nuked the gravel for an hour, and nuked the plastic plants until they started to melt, and now I'm soaking the tank itself in water with lots of fish fungicide. I'm still not sure what to do about the filter, other than to replace the cartidge. What fun.

Woke up to the sound of barking dogs. MY barking dogs. Staggered around, trying to get dressed, yelled at said dogs. I hate dogs. Especially MY dogs.

Strange shit. I went to the supermarket this evening. When I went through the checkout line, the teenybopper cashier girl, who I do not know, looked at me and said, "I don't know what to do with my hair for prom."

People who know me in real life will understand how absurd this is. My hair, which is badly in need of a washing at the moment, was pulled into a ponytail, as usual. I didn't brush it before I left the house. It hasn't been "done" in years. By no means do I look like a prom consultant, or even someone who cares about the prom.

So I mutter something non-committal like, "uhh, prom."

She seems to take this as a sign of interest, unfortunately, and proceeds to tell me how her hair is curly, and won't do anything that she wants it to do. She had it in a french twist last year, but it was a lot longer then. It doesn't look right pulled into a clip on the top and sides and hanging down in the back. She might consider an upsweep, but she isn't sure she'd like that.

I suggested that she see a hair stylist for suggestions and made a run for it.

My sweet rat Mason, aka Mabon Green Bean, died this evening at approximately 10pm. He was a good boy, the best boy. I got him and his pal Merlin from Lila, who didn't want them because they weren't breedable. Mason was rumoured to have aggression problems, but if he did, I never saw them. I bought a dehydrator at Walmart for about $40. I love this thing; you can make dried fruits and veggies, fruit roll-ups, meat jerky, dried herbs, all kinds of stuff. I give my rats the Sue Bee diet, and it calls for dried fruit. Since the only way to get unsulphered fruit is to spend a lot of money at the health food store, I make my own now! :)

I have like, a gazillion things to do today - fun stuff, like cleaning the rat cages and vacuuming and doing the dishes and laundry. And Rusty asked me this morning if I would prune the roses today. Stupid roses, I hate them. Bah.

On a brighter note, I think George is perhaps the most beautiful betta, ever.

Egad, I just did the fishie heimlich! I was giving the goldfish a pea half, which I was smushing up underwater. Hoggy Herring grabbed the whole thing, and then couldn't get it down or back up either. I watched him for a while, hoping it would resolve itself, but I could see the pea in his throat and it didn't seem to be going anywhere. He started obviously choking and gagging, so finally I caught him and gave him a little squeeze and the pea popped out. Good grief.

So. There was nothing on TV last night, and nothing happening online, so I decided to read a book. Reading used to be my favourite thing to do, before I got a computer. So I dragged out Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, and found out that I no longer have the ability to read. I could see the words on the page, but they all floated in and out of my head and I couldn't absorb any of them. I got as far as page 30 before I gave up and realised that I had no idea what had happened on pages 1-29.

The internet has rendered me illiterate.

And so it goes.

Mmmmmmmmmm fleshtunnels. This is what I am seeking right at the moment for my 6g ears. Don't let the namee scare you; it's just a hollow tube. Hence "tunnel though the flesh".

The rest of the stuff: you don't stretch ears with organic shit. Bad bad bad. Jewlery being sucked in means it's too small and thus should be changed. (duh!) It's in your MOUTH people; plaque forms on your teeth, so why not your barbell?! My nipple ring got slightly ripped on a freezer handle. Talk about PAIN. Thankfully it just bled a little and healed. Blow outs scare me. And lymph is the body's natural way of healing itself. It's greenish when it dries.

Woo. I'm a walking book of knowldge.

-hydra-
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 4/10/2002 5:52:15 PM

So flesh tunnels are the BIG holes that you can see through? And you have 6g? That's really big, huh? Gad, mine are only 18g (I think) - I'm such a wimbley pansy.

Your nipple story had me clutching my boobs, and mine aren't even pierced. If they WERE pierced, I'm sure I would catch them on something; I have a knack for injuring myself in bizarre ways.

And I could deal with the plaque, I guess, but the very thought of "streaming lymph" makes me want to hurl.
From: [info]das_hydra
Date: 4/10/2002 9:41:08 PM

They're not really that big, unless you have like 4g, 2g, 0g, 00g, 2mm... mine are still small enough but I certainly can't wear normal earrings in them anymore. Standard size for holes pierced with mall guns are 20g to 18g. My heilx is 14g. My nipple is 14g. When I get tunnels, I'll take a picture for you.

Strangely, that was the first thing I'd ever done to myself with my nipple ring. It's healed amazingly well. I want to pierce the left now lol If I lost like 50lbs I'd start flashing people. I don't know. I wonder where that urge comes from.

-hydra-
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 4/10/2002 10:06:50 PM

Holy crap, you pierced your own nipple? You are way the hell out of my league. I tried piercing ONCE, and someone else at that, and still I couldn't do it.

If I were skinny again, I would flash people too. Unfortunately, my chest has always been a minor attraction, and now it is completely overshadowed by my big child-bearing belly.

{sigh}
From: [info]das_hydra
Date: 4/10/2002 10:30:38 PM

Oh HELL NO!! No No! I meant out of my piercings, tearing the barbell in my nipple was the first time I'd hurt one of them. I couldn't pierce myself. I could do someone else, but my hands shake.

I used to have 44DD boobs. In comes surgery at 16 and now I'm something like a C or somethin. I can't ever remember. Hell, maybe even D again... and my stomach is no better and I've never had kids.

Ooohhh, how much did it hurt to get your tongue done? And how do you care for it? I want to get mine done, but I'm a little squeemish about putting Listerine in my mouth. :-?
From: [info]wildfell
Date: 4/14/2002 4:10:34 PM

:-P

I don't think it hurt much at all. I was expecting it to feel like I bit my tongue or something, but it hurt less; actually it felt pretty cool. I got a little head rush immediately afterward, due to endorphins or adrenaline or something. It was a fun experience--the stud felt heavy at first, it made eating weird, and it does get sore for a couple of days, but now it is painless and no bother. It actually healed up more easily than my navel and ear piercings. I highly recommend it if you are orally fixated, like me. (Nothing perverse--I just really enjoy smoking, hard candies, and playing with the tongue ring.) :)

You may want to conquer that Listerine aversion though--you have to swish about 5 times a day at first, after everything you eat and especially if you smoke. But you probably would not use actual Listerine, due to the alcohol and sacchirine content in it, so if other mouthwashes are okay.... no problem. (I use Tom's of Maine All Natural cinnamint, now usually just once a day.)
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 4/15/2002 12:06:17 AM

Re: :-P

I am hugely orally fixated, to the point that my mother and my husband have both muttered about not looking at me if I get it done, because they know I'll play with it. I smoke like a chimney, chew gum, eat hard candy... I must have something in my mouth to mess with. (and yeah, you can take that however you like ;)

Does Tom's Cinnamint have the same benefits as the Listerine? Because I have no problem with that!

I had three things to do this weekend. Then last night, I was informed that Rusty's parents are coming down for the weekend. So instead of dinner and rats and piercings, I will sit in a hotel room with old people for three days and listen to them discuss hernia repair. Freaking yay.

I'm picking up a beta at Petsmart today. Any advice?? Of course, I will see it AFTER I get the fish, but any advice as to taking care of it would be appreciated. :)

Yep, sure do. Sometimes Petsmart keeps their bettas in coloured water. If you see one that you're interested in, ask for them to dump it into clear water so you can really see it. Check the tail carefully, and don't buy it if the tail or fins look raggedy or discoloured or bad. I would also try to chose one that looks fiesty, not slumped or sickley.

And join the bettas community: http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=bettas. :)

Re:

Thank you! I got mine today and took him to my office. I think I'm going to have to go back and get another one for home. They had so many! I got a blue one, though after I got him in the tank I think he looks more red than blue. It was hard to choose.

Betta colour is an odd thing. My first betta was a royal blue colour to look at, but in photographs, he looked absolutely turquoise. I tried taking his picture under different lighting (room lights on and off, tank lights on and off, natural sunlight, etcetera) - always, the pictures turned out turquoise - but I swear, he was really royal blue.

Maybe something about the way their scales are made makes them look different under different lighting...?

Re:

That may very well be. This one looks blueish green but I guess his fins have a lot of red in them.

So Rusty leaves his good shoes on the floor, next to the dirty cat litter box. Max pisses in his shoes. Now Rusty is not only mad at Max, but at me too. Now, we know that the box needs to be cleaned and we know that Max has a tendancy to piss in shoes if you leave them on the floor. Knowing this, would it not make more sense to hang the damned shoes up on the shoe rack? And, if you're too lazy to do that, then don't bitch about it when the cat does what you have every reason to know he'll do!

Sarah needed a nap, so we parted with the in-laws for a few hours. Yay Sarah!

I went to the petstore and bought another package of Hikari Betta Bio-Gold for George, as well as a small vacuum and a silk plant for the betta tank, and a can of bloodworms. George likes bloodworms! Bought rat food too, since I was completely out, and no one wants to see what 30 hungry rats can do. Least of all, me.

Came home, checked on Bella and the babies. Looks like one is mostly white (maybe masked), four are blue berks or variberks, and one is... I don't know. It looks like s/he couldn't decide whether to be a hooded or a variberk, kinda like Zippy Zoot.

Sarah will be awake soon, and then we'll go back to the hotel, and I assume out to dinner. I wonder if it would be considered rude if I took my Gameboy along...?

By this point, it was 1am, so I decided to eat a cheese sub with mayo that had been sitting in my fridge, again, for almost a week. So NOT a good plan. It was a bad day, for the most part.

We had breakfast with the in-laws, and that was fine. Then we went back to the hotel for a little while, and then Rusty wanted to take his mom to some greenhouses while his dad watched some stupid golf game. Fine. I wanted to move the car seat back to the other side (to give me more leg room), and when I did, I put the car keys down and managed to lose them IN the car. We finally found the keys, and went to the first greenhouse, in Sheperdstown.

It was nice enough, and we bought a pansy and some herbs. After we had left and gone done the road a bit, I noticed... my ruby and diamond ring that Rusty had just bought me for Christmas was GONE. I had no idea if I had lost it at the hotel when I was moving the car seat and looking for the keys, or at the greenhouse. I checked my purse and the car, but couldn't find it anywhere.

We were going to go back to the greenhouse to look, but just as we were almost there, Rusty's mother had a diabetic "spell" ... she does this occasionally, zones out, gets belligerent and incoherant. So we finally got her back into town and got her to eat an orange, and then took her back to the hotel.

We asked at the hotel if anyone had found a ring in the parking lot, then drove back to Shepherdstown and checked the greenhouse - no luck. We even stopped by the apartment on the off-chance that it came off in bed without me noticing, but it wasn't here. My pretty ring is gone, and I am extremely bummed out. =(

And then we went back to the hotel and we all went out to El Ranchero, which is a very good place. When we got done though, his mother started telling Rusty this crap about how it would probably be the last time she'd be able to visit, the whole guilt trip, ugh. And now I'm home, but still depressed.

Several months ago, I managed to lock myself outside with my daughter running loose inside. I had no other option than to pull the air conditioner out and climb in through the window. Since it was already pulled halfway out, we put it into storage. I really, really wish it was in the window instead. I tried to go to bed, but couldn't sleep, because I was so freaking hot. Now I'm up and watching Nick-at-Nite. Yay.

A sticker on another sandwich I found in the fridge: "Best eaten by: 13 April, 6 AM" ... now I not only have to worry about the date, but the TIME as well?!? Screw it, I'm eating it. Piss on the fates! I'm probably going to die from the heat anyway.

I AM SO HAPPY!!!

And I owe it all to Funyons. I ate them earlier, and the salt aggravated my already chapped lips. I thought, I should put some Badger Balm on them. And then I thought, I just had the Badger Balm out last night, what was I doing with it? And then I remembered, I had dropped a cigarette ember between my fingers, and it had burned, so I put some Badger Balm on it. And then I wondered, was my ring on then? Because I wear the ruby and diamond ring on my index finger, and it would have been in the way - surely I would have noticed if it had been missing then - unless...

Unless I had taken the ring off to apply the damned balm! And sure enough, there was my ring, on the floor, under my desk. I must have set it on my desk and knocked it off without noticing. DUH. Obviously I will tell Rusty that I found the ring, however I'm not sure if I should break the news to him about what a dumbass I was.

And if anyone wondered, I DID go to bed, and was just getting ready to dose off, when Sarah woke up yelling. The girl does NOT like to have her schedule interupted. I finally got her back to sleep, but then Rusty was snoring and hogging the bed, so I came back out here, pissed off that I couldn't get any damn sleep in this house... which turned out to be a good thing, since if I had been asleep, I wouldn't have been thinking about chapped lips and where I put the Badger Balm. And I found my ring, hooray!!!

Life is good.

Then I went to Kmart and bought a Shop Vac. I'm tired of buying bags for that stupid old Hoover cannister vacuum we have, and our Hoover upright doesn't do anything for picking up aspen shavings. I'm kinda sick of Hoovers in general, and I really hope this thing does a better job! And it's black, so it looks nicer than the other two.

I also bought a coffee maker - also black. It's a diet product, see. I figure if I have a coffee maker here, I'll have no excuse to go out and buy rich and creamy and fattening cappachinos so much. At least, I'm hoping that's how it will work.

A comment that [info]closertofine just made to my Perfect Pancake post made me think.

If I had the money, I would love to make a website about the quality of all the various television products. I personally always see these ads and wonder if any of it works. Some of it does - I have the Egg Waves and the Perfect Omelette, and they work great. Other stuff, like the Safety Can, falls short. I have only bought inexpensive stuff, for that very reason. But I would love to try the Turbo Tiger or the Stick Shark, for example, if I knew that they worked. It would cost a lot of money do buy all the stuff though, and some of it, like the exercise equiptment, would take a lot of time. I guess you would actually need more than one tester for the exercise stuff, since if you tried more than one thing at once, you wouldn't know what was working.

There may already be a website out there like it, but if not, it seems like a good idea to me. Maybe I'll make a smaller version on my personal website. Hmmm...

I think that's a great idea. Good Housekeeping did a feature like that once, rating a bunch of different products, and I thought it was very helpful.

I am a sucker for infomercials (and regular commercials, and movie trailers, etc.). I haven't bought many infomercial products though. I did buy the egg waves and I didn't like them at all. I may have overcooked the eggs - Husband urged me to try them again since I only tried them once, but I was so disgusted with them that I threw them away! Don't tell him that you like them or he'll want to get them again. LOL

ABC News did a few shows about different "as seen on tv" products too, and of course I always missed them.

I have had good luck with the Egg Waves (though I only eat eggs a couple of different ways, so I didn't have a lot of variety in my "product testing". The Perfect Omelette is really awesome too, especially for people like me who always spill the omelettes when turning them, lol.

The BJ/Maxie story WAS heart wrenching, not just the part with Tony, but the part where Felicia realises who the donor is really gets me too. It was great seeing all the old characters that I miss, like Robert and Anna, and the old actors, like the original Carly and Lucky.

I have a problem. There's a really bad leak in my tub faucet, and to fix it, they would have to access it from my bedroom. I use the term "bedroom" loosely, because it's more of a disaster area. Everything that doesn't have a place, ends up in the bedrom. This is coupled with the fact that we have WAY too many clothes, the majority of which no longer fit, and we've been reluctant to go through it and admit how fat we've gotten. To make matters worse, most of the clothes are dirty because there is no point in washing them since I have NOWHERE to put them once they're clean.

The problem is, if I tell my landlord about the leak, he will have to go into the bedroom to fix it, and if he sees that mess, he'll have a cow. On the other hand, if it isn't fixed soon, the water bill is going to skyrocket, and he's going to have a cow. We would just fix it ourselves, but we can't find the damned water shut-off valve for the apartment, and there is no individual valve for this apartment. So I need to get that room presentable NOW, or come with the money to pay a plumber myself... though I still won't be able to tell him where the shut-off valve is.

For once in my miserable life, I have the car legal and the bills caught up, and now I have THIS to sit around and worry about. Dammit.

That would be sick enough if he actually KNEW her, but she's just a girl that he used to talk to in a chatroom when she was 13, and I guess she had a crush on him then, or was at least nice to him, because she's legal now, and he wants her. She doesn't return his emails, but he knows that they have this really special love. Yeah.

I went to Petsmart this morning, where I bought two 1-gallon bookend-style betta tanks for on either end of George's tank. I think it will look really nice! Now I just need two perfect bettas. They'll have to be exceptionally beautiful bettas to rival the slendor of Glorious George. I'm not sure what colour I want. I'd love to have a purple one, but I really like the royal blue, too. And then there's red, which is really pretty. And Rusty likes the yellow ones. I think I will get Jamie to watch the baby one afternoon so I can go to the petstore and shop unhindered. I will go back to the one in town, since they had some really nice crowntails, and George has done well so far.

Then I went to [info]laurarn's house for lunch. We had grilled cheese (yum!), and I got to meet her bettas and her new chinchillas. They are SO CUTE! I took some pictures of them, which I will probably post at some point. I had never held one before, but they are SO SOFT. They aren't as outgoing as rats, but they let me hold them and mess with them. And they're SO FREAKIN CUTE!!!

This is a discussion about what colour bettas I should get:

Me: George is gonna be in the middle...
Me: so they have to either ALL be blue, or all be completely different colours
Laura: you are whacked
Me: I can't have a blue one, then George who is mostly blue, and then a red one
Me: BUT
Me: I could have yellow blue red
Me: OR
Me: red blue red
Me: OR
Me: purple blue purple
Me: BUT NOT purple blue red
Me: because blue and purple are too similer
Laura: you need prozac
Laura: PURPLE!

Sadly, I will probably have the exact same conversation with Rusty later this evening.

[Current Mood |disappointed]

This is only viewable to a select few; my mother, Laurie, and Joell. As I posted earlier, I went to Laura's house today. I swear, she absolutely drives me insane.

Laura is the girl who had the pregnant rat, and gave me the three babies (Mango, Manderin, and Mumford) from the litter. Shortly thereafter, she decided that she didn't want to keep rats any more, and gave me Ziggy and Benny, and gave the rest of her rats to a petstore. Shortly after that, she got cats, but gave them to her mother because of her son's selective allergies. I say selective, because they have a dog now, and he doesn't seem to be allergic to that.

Anyway, last fall, she decided that she wanted to keep rats again, claiming that breeder rats would be different from petstore rats. I wouldn't let her have any of my babies from Boris x Bella, and warned Joell and Sandy about her as well. She got three rats from Lila, and complained from the start that the rats were sneezy and sickly. I found this hard to believe, for as much as I dislike Lila on a personal level, my rats from her have always been extremely healthy. Laura re-joined the ratlist again and talked about them a lot at first.

Then she stopped. I asked her several times how the rats were, and got vague answers like "fine" or "okay" or "sneezy" but never really anything ABOUT them. I figured she had gotten rid of them. Sure enough, she told me today that she had taken the rats to her mother's house because they have been sick, and she didn't want me to take anything contagious home to my rats. I think she's full of shit, because there was no sign of rats in her house. No rat food, no droppings, no stray pieces of aspen. Those rats are GONE, and God only knows where.

She has chinchillas now; I wonder how long those will last. =(

From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 4/19/2002 10:05:30 AM

It IS sad, and it isn't entirely her fault. Well, it IS her fault, but she learned it from her mother. Her mother is this nutty alcoholic, and when we were kids, she used to take in foster kids, the ones that no one else wanted. Some were inter-racial kids, but some of them were really extreme cases, too. There was one baby who had some rare disease and died, and a couple of severely retarded kids, and one boy (Ricky) who was a teenager and so severely autistic (among other problems that I don't remember) that they had to keep him in a playpen, like a toddler. Seems like a noble cause at first, right? Except Linda had a bad habit of deciding that the kids (like Ricky) were too much trouble, and then "taking them back". So Laura learned it honest. :\
From: [info]muridae
Date: 4/19/2002 10:10:45 AM

That's horrible. And I can understand that the kids were too much trouble. I mean, those are the kinds of kids that Sean worked with, and they are REALLY hard.

But, you DON'T take on responsibilities like that, without THINKING about it first. Just like you don't take on pets and then get rid of them when it's no fun. When you make a committment to something that's alive, it needs to be for life. =( Which it sounds like neither of them do.

That really is very sad. =*(
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 4/19/2002 10:28:35 AM

Oh, I couldn't handle kids like that either... which is why I don't foster/adopt them! But she never learned. :-\

The Friday Five

1. What's your favorite TV show and why? Friends - because I love Chandler. I also like Dharma & Greg and Frasier. And NYPD Blue. And ER. And... I love television.

2. Who is your favorite television star? Matthew Perry. Have I mentioned how much I love Chandler? I think we may have been seperated at birth.

3. What was your favorite TV show as a child? The Incredible Hulk. I had a HUGE crush on Bill Bixby. Still do, really, even though he's dead. Alas.

4. What show do you think should have been cancelled by now? Family Law. Tony Danza is clearly the most idiotic individual on the planet.

5. What new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? Philadelphia. It's the only new show that I've seen, so it wins by default. And it isn't awful.

I thought I'd give my answers to this (yes, I'm that bored)

1. What's your favorite TV show and why? Hands down The Soprano's. Love that Tony Soprano. Next would be Soul Food on Showtime. Then Autopsy. I know, I'm weird and that woman who narrates the show? Her voice FREAKS me out. I also like watching My Wife & Kids. (yes people, I'm black!)

2. Who is your favorite television star? Hmmm that's a hard one. I don't think I have one to be honest. No one I love that much.

3. What was your favorite TV show as a child? Hmmmmm can't remember. I don't think I had a show I really realy loved that I can remember anyway. My favorite book for what it's worth though was The Tales of Narnia.

4. What show do you think should have been cancelled by now? Oh gosh so many, Drew Carrey, Don't Shoot Me... tons of them that I don't get the humor to.

5. What new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? My Wife & Kids. I think it did get picked up for the next season though so WOOHOO!!!!!!

I just called the piercing places in Manassas and in Blacksburg, and they're really expensive. So I can't afford to get my navel pierced this weekend with the birthday money that I have left over, like I'd wanted to. Apparently navel piercing costs a lot more if you want to have it done by a professional, with the right jewelry.

And we never did get a thunderstorm, and now the stupid fucking sun is back out, and I still have no coffee. I think I am going to go cry now.

Comments:
From: [info]das_hydra

Um, of course it's going to cost more if you want it done right. My nipple was $40, my helix was $35, my plugs were $55. I think Tweak's navel was something like $40 and I don't remember what her tongue was -- you might ask her.

If it's a good shop, they include the standard jewlery with the piercing; if you want something purple expect to pay more.

It's just like tattoos -- you pay the money to get the good stuff. I learned the hard way. My first was $100 and is all crappy and faded. My second was $150 and excellent. My 3rd was $50 (because he charged by the piece size) but I got a great artist who even helped modify the piece so it would look better.

There's a little store down the street run by an Asian family who does piercings for $10. Talk about walking into a health risk. I've only been tempted to go in there and look at the jewlery though.

You'll get your navel piercing. :)

But when I say "twice as much" I mean (almost) twice as much as the prices you're quoting! A barbell piercing costs $65 at the shop in Manassas, and $70 in Blacksburg. It just seems like a lot for a really basic piercing.

Tats are really expensive, as I recall.

Hey! I live right near the piercing/tattoo place in Manassas. That's so funny... My sis got her tongue pierced there. They do good work. They're very clean and very careful and sanitary. I would recommend going there for your peircing, but I'm not sure of the cost, so...whatever yah want. :)

Don't cry, either! You can make more coffee and it will storm sometime soon! It stormed over here...and the power went out. It was nice to see a storm, but sucked to have the power out.

Well, bye for now! :)

Hey, that is GREAT to know, thanks! That's been on of my problems; thinking, well, I could go to Manassas... but not really knowing if that place was any better than the one up here. So it's good to know someone (sort of, lol) who's been there. They can't be too bad - I stopped in there once to ask a question and that place was PACKED.

We never did get a thunderstorm. It's weird here; rain seems to skirt all around us but we never actually GET any! :\

I went to the store last night and bought cream and sugar. They had the sugar in the little packets, but no creamer in the tiny cups. Oh well. The big bottle of creamer works, I'm just not sure how much to use. But I have a pot of coffee, and stuff to put in it, so life is good. Yay coffee!

Now I'm just sitting here waiting to see if my mom wants to take me to Manassas and watch Sarah while I get my navel pierced.

I decided that I could make up the extra money for a piercing, since we're close to payday anyway. Since Rusty is at work, I thought I would go by myself - then I realised that I couldn't do that, because I have the kid. I can't go next weekend because I have to meet Rachael. My mother and Rusty were like, so you can go the week after that, and be patient. But then it occured to me, I can't go the week after that, because the week after that, Rusty is going to have surgery, and won't be able to drive OR watch the kid. So it's either today, or not for another month or so.

And I don't want to be patient, I want my damn navel pierced!

[Current Mood |contemplative]

These are my main choices:

Rendezvous in Blacksburg VA.
Ideally, this would be my first choice. He is an older guy, for starters, and I don't really want to put my navel in the hands of some 18-year-old bimbo named April (again). He is a member of the APP. He uses numbing agents, which is nice, and most importantly, he's the only one who offers a choice in jewelry. The drawbacks are, he's about four hours away, and he isn't open on Sundays, when Rusty could go with me.

Exposed Temptations in Manassas VA.
These people are about an hour and a half from me - the closest place on the list. They seem very friendly and helpful, and two people have told me they're good. They don't offer a choice in jewelry, but they are open on Sundays.

Hot Rod Body Piercing in Pittsburgh PA.
I know one person who has been here and likes them. They are APP members and seem to have a lot of experience, but they don't offer a choice in jewelry. They are about three and a half hours away and they aren't open on Sundays.

There is also American Tattoo Studio and Ms Natural, which are closer than the others, but I don't know anything about them. SO. I can either have Rusty take me to the shop in Manassas tomorrow, OR, I can call Rendezvous in Blacksburg, see if they would let me take my daughter in the room with me if she's in a stroller, and if they will, drive down by myself during the week. What to DO???

I would call and ask Rendezvouz if you can take your daughter in with you--and I'm sure that if she is secure in a stroller, they won't mind. If that is your first choice, go for it! You want to have a choice in jewelery, because remember you can't take it out for 6 months or so! :) Good luck.

For those who don't know, Rusty is a land surveyor - I ran chain for a company that he used to work for; that's how we met. He had an asbuilt in Berkeley Springs that he needed to finish this weekend, and they didn't get done yesterday, and his crew won't work Sundays, so guess who had to go out and run chain today. In the rain. It was a farm/stable where they have horse shows, so at least I got to pet a horsie!

After we finally finished, we stopped by the overlook - it's pretty cool, because you can see the Potomac River and three states from one spot. And then we stopped and admired the Berkeley Springs Castle, which fascinates me to no end.

And then we came home and tried to fix the faucet, and now it's even worse. I guess I'm going to have to call a plumber. Dammit. To make matters worse, then my father stopped by. Yuck. I really can't stand to be around the man. Now I need to feed/water the rats, and finish this pot of coffee.

I am now the proud owner of a navel piercing - a 14 gauge curved barbell with purple titanium balls. The trip was long and mountainous - I had never been that far south in Virginia before. I had a hell of a time keeping that little Nissan on the road in the strong wind. It took a total of eight hours of driving in in a car with no radio, two tanks of gas, and a pack and a half of Camels - but I finally have the piercing that I really wanted! I don't think I am the one who approved that particular post, because I've been away from the computer a lot lately, but I have no problem with it, either. Why? Because the whole issue of taking up bandwidth is largely irrelevant at this point. When the internet was young, people had to pay by the minute, and in those cases, OT posts were a waste of bandwidth. Most people now pay their ISP a monthly fee now, no matter how much they download.

This is an easy problem to solve: if the subject line says OT or FW, don't look at it. If you recieve messages via email, hit delete. I get so sick of seeing the big bandwidth threads in the ratlist, because they take up FAR more OT space than the original OT post ever did. Hit delete and move on with your life.

Ugh, she annoys me to no end. 99% of her posts are about absolutely nothing; she has no business whining about anything being a waste of bandwith. Grrr...

They're so pretty. I love that color blue on the top one. I wish I could get some good clear pictures of Toby.

I'm hoping to get a new one this weekend to keep at home, maybe I'll be able to get some.

By the way, Do you have yours in tanks with lids or something because of the cats? I was wondering if I should find something with a lid instead of what I have at work.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 4/24/2002 8:54:07 PM

Oh, yeah... even if you don't have a cat, your betta containers should have lids, as they are really likely to jump out of the bowl if they can. :\

I have three betta containers. George is in a filtered three-gallon Eclipse tank, and I also have two Topfin Aquascene 1 one-gallon tanks which are currently un-occupied. Personally, I really like the Eclipse tank, but if you don't want to spend that much for one fish, or want something smaller, the Aquascene 1 is a nice in-between, and nicer for them than the tiny hex tanks. Mine cost about ten bucks at Petsmart.

Rusty and I were admiring Glorious George last night, and talking about getting two more bettas for the new tanks. Problem is, Rusty wants a fish that he saw in our betta book. A fish that probably costs $100, and he wants THAT FISH, specifically.

So I told him that this specific fish was probably long-since-dead (bettas don't have a long life span, and the book has been out for a while now), but that there were a lot of nice bettas online that we could look at. Makes sense, no?

But no, he says. We can't get the nice bettas for the new tank, because first, the tank must kill. That's right. His theory is, all new tanks must kill one fish before they are safe for other fish. So we had this long discussion about the parameters of his theory - for example, if I cleaned out the tank and put it out in the shed, and then in ten years, Sarah wants a fish, would the tank need to kill again? What if I bought a used tank at a yard sale, and it had already killed - would it need to kill one of MY fish, specifically, or would it be satiated with the death of its previous fish?

Rusty is a very strange individual.

3. Is there a hobby you're interested in, but just don't have the time/money to do? Umm, no, not really. Maybe scuba diving; that would be tres cool.

4. Have you ever turned a hobby into a moneymaking opportunity? I breed rats, but that really isn't for profit. I have fixed computers and designed websites for money.

I went to the bank this morning, what fun. As I was driving there, it occured to me that I didn't know what state my bank is in. You cross back and forth from West Virginia to Virginia a couple times on that route, but I wasn't sure which you're in when you actually get to the bank. I paid attention this time, and it turns out, it's in Virginia. Deposited some money, continued on my merry way.

Stopped at Petsmart, bought Carefresh, the rats' Nutro Lite, more betta food, and an algae scraper for the betta tanks. Looked at the goldfish and bettas; they were as sickley-looking as ever. Went to the little fish store where I got my goldfish, bought another orange and white goldfish, named him Kipper II. He's so cute!

I said, "Pretty soon, I'm going to have to go south", alluding to genital piercing, because I didn't really want to discuss such areas with him by name.

He looked at me, and I kid you not, said "Canada?"

It was a very long day. We started off the morning with an argument - nothing like being stuck in a car for three hours with someone who just pissed you off, so I told him he could watch the baby, and I would go by myself. After much debate, he came with me. We drove to Wilkes-Barre PA and met Rachael - gave her the russian blues from Kathleen and got the blue dumbo girl from her. She's a cutie, and looks a lot like Bella.

Afterwards, we drove around Wilkes-Barre. I had never actually been IN the town, just on the outskirts at The Ferret Store. It was a really interesting town! There is a Jewish college and a big Jewish population in general, and an old brewery, and some strange churches, and a cool bridge. I will definately have to go back and take my camera!

After that, we found a Friendly's, and ate lunch. Sarah had a grilled cheese and french fries, which she loves, but the meal came with a sundae, and as it turns out, she hates ice cream! It was good though; I had quesadillas and mozzerella sticks.

Then we stopped in Hershey PA; home of Hershey chocolate. The street lamps are shaped like Hershey Kisses; very cool. We drove down Chocolate Avenue, past the chocolate factory. One of their unions was on strike, and I made rude gestures at them. A lot of people really need and appreciate employment; it pisses me off to see these over-paid clowns out on the street corner, not working, but keeping the the jobs from other people too. Unions are very annoying, to me.

We started towards home, and made it as far as Harrisburg, when Rusty got sick - the hernia thing again. So I had to drive home, in the rain. Which annoyed me, because, while I know the hernia isn't his fault, I should have just gone by myself to begin with. I CAN drive; I just have a hard time staying awake on trips longer than 30 minutes. But anyway. I drove back to West Virginia, stopped at my mom's house and dropped off the rat for quarantine, and headed home.

Rusty went to bed and I went back out to get a bottle of wine and here I am. If anyone knows a good name for a female blue masked dumbo rat, preferably starting with the letter B, I would love to hear them.

I never posted yesterday, because it was so horrible. Rusty and I had a huge fight. We fought all day, actually. He told me I was the worst thing that ever happened to him. I appreciated this assessment, of course. His brother shot and killed his other brother, his wife screwed around and got pregnant by another man, and yet *I* am the worst thing that has ever happened to him. Wow. I must be amazingly horrible. I told him to take his shit and leave, but he didn't, and then I tried to find out if the shotgun is a 12-gauge or 14-gauge, because there are no shells in it. I am really sick of this.

*hugs*

What are you going to do, shoot him?
{...}
I'm not really sure that's the best idea.

For the both of you, is your marriage worth working on? Do the two of you WANT to be together? Which is heavier/stronger/better/more important/more prevalent/whatever, your good times or your bad times?

I have to go to school now but I'll be on AIM later, if you should want to talk. Just don't shoot anyone in the meantime, please. =P

I wasn't going to shoot him; I was going to shoot myself. I am the Horrible One, and everyone would be happier without me. But alas, I have no fucking shells.

Oh, you know you're a person too, right? So my comment not to shoot any people also applies to YOU.

You poor thing :(. I'm so sorry you had such a bad day. That was awful of him to treat you that way. I hope you are doing better today.

Big hugs, Nessie. {{{{{}}}}}

I'm watching the Gilda Radner movie, and now I am incredibly in love with Gene Wilder.

Top Three Reasons I Hate Spring:

1) Bugs.

2) Heat.

3) Dead baby birds on my sidewalk.

We live in an old stone house, and the birds roost up in the toppermost stones and attic. When the time comes for them to learn to fly, I guess sometimess they don't. :(

Everyone else has a plan; why not me... 4/30/2002 11:56:00 AM

Congratulations on being the creator of a new Evil Plan (tm)!

Your objective is simple: World Domination.

Your motive is a little bit more complex: Hatred for all mankind.

Stage One
To begin your plan, you must first traumatize a pope. This will cause the world to sit up and take notice, stunned by your arrival. Who is this demented madman? Where did they come from? And why do they look so good in classic black?

Stage Two
Next, you will sabotoge the White House. This will cause countless hordes of animal minions (rats, birds, etc.) to flock to you, begging to do your every bidding. Your name will become synonymous with fuzzy bunnies, as lesser men whisper your name in terror.
Stage Three
Finally, you will unleash your great supernatural forces, bringing about an end to sanity. This will all be done from a Dark Side of the Moon, an excellent choice if we might say.

These three deeds will herald the end, and the citizens of this planet will have no choice but to elect you their new god.

Trust us, it'll all come together in the end.
