Ooh, spiffy!! ^_^
I tried like 3 times to teach myself to knit and failed miserably.
And although I can't read a pattern, I can crochet up a storm! I have tons of scarves because of that, and my sister can even do hats without a pattern. :P
I am hopeful, though I'm not going to hold my breath! I'm terribly needle-impaired, though crochet makes more sense to me than knitting - at least there's a hook! When I tried to knit, the yarn just kept slipping off the ends of the stupid needles. Bah.
What stitch do you use to make scarves?

Crochet makes tons more sense to me, too, and it feels so much easier.
I use single stitch and double stitch. Just the basics. :P
Can you do many projects with just single and double? I can sort of do single now, will attempt double next, but I want to MAKE something, dammmit! :)

I'm sure there's lots of things you can do!! If my sister can do hats and we can do scarves, sweaters at least are a sure thing!
I would be happy with just scarves, hats, and afgans! =)

lol...then you should go for it!! :)
I think scarves are the easiest to start with since they're not as big as afghans, and it's just lots of rows of either the single/double stitch, and there's still lots of different ways to do scarves. (my sister sometimes alternates the stitches...like 2 rows double, two rows single, and it comes out pretty well!)
That's great to know, thanks! =)
I really wish I was closer. I'd teach you to knit. I think knitting's way easier than crochet.
I actually hate that chenille yarn. I've had a skein for over a year and every time I use it I get frustrated with it and give up.
My latest project is dying a skein of Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool with kool-aid.
I wish you were closer too - I need help! I thought the cenille looked like it would be hard to use, too - but there was a "1 skein scarf" in the book that called for it. I love the Lion Brand; I have a skein of purple varigated Homespun that I really want to make *something* with. Will the Kool-aid stick when you wash whatever you've made?
Yep, Kool-aid is an acid dye and it reacts with the protein in the wool. That only works with 100% animal fibers like wool, mohair, llama, or alpaca.
I'm working on a Homespun sweater for a friend's 5 year old and a purse out of wool/mohair that will be felted for me.
Oooh, I have a skein of the Homespun (varigated purple, natch), it's really pretty and soft.

Darn it..... ooops... crochet it! |

I wish I would have known you were gonna be a crochet queen. I had so much yarn left over from my last knitting attemps. EVEN PURPLE. But I gave it away. I would have loved to have sent it to you.
Oh my roomie wants to know if you can crochet little hairless rattie sweaters. xox

LOL! I should try that - Hoggle is in the breeding cage with Stellah right now, and the poor little guy has gotten all scuffed up. :\
I take it your attempts at knitting were no more successful than mine?
