I am so completely bored. Rusty is at work and my mom is MIA. I hate weekends.

I should work on my would-be afghan. My grandma made a small square for me, and I've been going around and around it with single crochet stitches, in the hopes that one day it will be an afghan. So far, it's about the size of a potholder. I should try to figure out double or treble crochet stitches, so it will go faster. I am the slowest crochet-er on the planet.

Have I mentioned how bored I am?

Hey join the club & I'm pretty sure I'm the only loser who was home last night instead of out whooping it up too heh Double is easy, you just do an extra YO *before* you put the hook through the stitch.

YO, put hook through st, YO, pull loop back through st (like for a single, except you'll have 3 lps on the hook now)), [YO & pull through 2 lps on hook] 2 times

Treble is 2 YO before putting it through the st. Proceed as above. Then you just pull through 2 lps on hook 3 times.

The sad thing is, I was invited to a party last night, and decided to stay home and crochet and watch TLC instead. I'm SUCH a loser.

Thanks for the dc/tr advice - your instructions always make more sense than the stitchguide.com stuff or my book. =)

I AM nuts. Well, I didn't want to commit to the party and then dread it, so I just said no. But when I saw how boring it was just sitting at home, I regretted it. I suck at making plans.

I am going to try the dc/tre as soon as I put Sarah down for her nap. Stay tuned for emergency questions! ;)
From: [info]sioranth

I've done the same thing - didn't want to go somewhere, stayed home & regretted it. Usually once I get there I end up having a good time, but I just don't "socialize" well lol

Jeez you're lucky, kid takes a nap! I'm thinking about slipping some kiddie valium into their sport bottles *evil grin* I'll be around all day I'm sure, so drop a note if you need help :)

Usually once I get there I end up having a good time, but I just don't "socialize" well

Same here. I suck at socialising, and I also suck at being committed to a certain event. If I can show up either way, I'm fine, but if I make definate plans to be somewhere, I dread going to the thing.

How old are your kids? Mine is only 3yo, so it still readily takes a nap. =)
From: [info]sioranth

Yeah, I feel like I'm boxed in then & the rebel in me tries to refuse to see it through lol

They're almost 7,5.5 & 2.5 but all 3 of them quit the "nap thing" at around 18mos. Night owls to boot, they can stay up til 1am & crawl out of bed at 7 for school no problem. I think they stop sleeping entirely during the summer lol

We got them a small tv last xmas & my mil got them a gamecube, but it broke last week. It worked fine one night & then the next day it wouldn't read the disks. So I guess it's a lens problem & I saw a LOT of them on eBay have the same issue so I"m wondering if it's a defect. But anyway, the don't have satellite back there so now there's nothing to do except actually *play* hehehe

I learned to crochet and made several scarves and a hat and half a beach bag and one row of an afghan. Around 1992 or 1993. Later -- a few years ago maybe -- I came across the stuff and decided I needed another scarf and I couldn't do it anymore! I thought maybe I just needed a little practice but I tried and still couldn't.

I really need a scarf.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/1/2003 9:24:14 PM

Hahahaha! That's why I'm doing this - I don't LIKE to crochet, I just want a scarf and some stuff that I can't find in the right colours. Apparently purple has gone out of fashion. :\
From: [info]cellio
Date: 11/1/2003 9:01:42 PM

Don't you make doubles (or triples) by looping once (or twice) more around the hook before making the next stitch? In other words, just like a single but with extra stuff on the hook? Mind, I haven't done this since I was about 7, so I could well be mis-remembering.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/1/2003 9:27:19 PM

I *think* so... dammit, does *everyone* know how to crochet but me?!? :)
From: [info]cellio

I don't know how any more; I don't know how to set it up or make the basic stitch. Used to, though, and I guess there's still some indexed data lying around in the back corners of the brain. :-)

ooh it looks lovely. i have a coolpix 995 and absolutely LOVE it. they're a pretty solid company. if you've got a good price, i'd jump for it. i didn't see if it comes with a rechargeable battery or not; that would be my only concern. my 990 sucked up a TON of double a's.

and speaking of abc soaps... grr i came home, hoping to relax to a little 'general hospital', AND I END UP WATCHING FORTY MINUTES OF FUCKING TORNADO COVERAGE!!!! grrr.

I KNOW!!! I am so sick of Doug Hill's voice, I could scream. And guess what, Doug? If there's a fucking tornado outside your house, you probably already know.

Thanks for the camera input! The battery thing concerns me too, though Jamie (my ex who is selling the camera) says that he thinks it's a rechargable. The three cameras that I have now (an SLR, a P&S, and the digital) are all Canons, so I'm not at all familier with Nikon, but have always heard good things.

I have the CoolPix that's one step down from the 3100 (I think it's a 2000- something). I really like it, and while I don't have much experience using different types of digital cameras, it works well, has some good features, and didn't cost a ridiculous amount.

I went to Walmart and bought a ton of cleap storage boxes, so that I can *try* to bring some semblance of order to my craft supplies. As it is now, they're overflowing the dining room and I end up using nothing, because it's too much of a hassle to find anything. I really wish that I had a lablemaker, but the boxes are fairly clear, so deciphering the contents shouldn't be too much trouble. My main problem right now is keeping the kittens out of it all. Bah.

Oh! And I also bought a rechargable battery kit for my new camera, and a larger flash card. Because really, what good is that silly-ass 8mb starter card going to do me?

So as I've whined repeatedly, my dryer caught on fire a few days ago. So I asked my mom to bring me clothespins, which she did. And wouldn't you know, it's insanely windy here today. I thought this might be a good thing, and hung a sheet out to dry. Folded it over the line, and fastened it with five friggen clothespins. And the damned thing still blew off the line, and as luck would have it, landed in my neighbour's [large and exceptionally thorny] rose bush. Argh.

In other news, my original cellphone battery crapped out, so I ordered a replacement via Ebay. Except, this new one is "extended life", and now my tiny little phone is much thicker. Bah.

So Rusty took the heat-blower-outter-thingie off, and we cleaned it out and patched the dryer hose, which certain horrible kittens had torn holes in. And cleaned the lint trap. And now it dries stuff without catching on fire! How cool!

Reminds me of a story...

Congratulations to Stellah and her ten new wiggles.
Sometime in the late seventies, my uncle worked for this laboratory where they breed rats and stored or experimented with their droppings. I forget what they used if for, but they made a hell of a lot money doing it. It reminds me of a story from when I was a child. I remember my father went to meet my uncle there one day. My Uncle constantly warned him about the pit of droppings out back. I guess my father thought nothing of it being a Vietnam Veteran and all. Well, that day he ventured out back and suddenly found himself knee deep in sh*t, literally. He began to sink, and the more he fought the faster he sunk. After several failed attempts, he found that his head barely above the surface. He called out for help and my uncle soon came to rescue him. He threw him a line or large branch and my father was able to pull himself out. His clothes now covered in droppings were ruined, so he borrowed some clothes from my uncle. My uncle said the same thing happened to him some years ago after a few weeks of working there, and he was lucky the rope was handy and he was able to pull himself out, too. But I could never forget the ruined jeans and shirt my father brought home in a bag. Even though his clothes were dry they smelled really bad. The man at the dry cleaners refused his business and said there was no way to get the dry sh*t out.

I've actually spent most of the day reading at jewfaq.org and related sites. After losing Rabbi Garfunkel and the stress of the house-buying and subsequent move, I haven't been doing much practice of Judaism. I had forgotten how facinating and enjoyable it can be, and am going to make a concerted effort to do better. Now if I can just manage to leave the house and search for a new rabbi / synagogue. The thought of starting all over really freaks me out.

I did find a photo of the new rabbi at the local Reform synagogue. I really wish that B'nai Abraham offered Saturday morning Shabbat services, as I hate to go out on Friday nights.

The other possibilities are Beth Sholom (Frederick MD) and the Loudoun Jewish Congregation (Leesburg VA) - I think both of those are Consevative and offer Saturday morning services.

Yeah. The biggest dilemma I have (other than social phobia), is that the closest synagogue only offers Friday night services, and the two that offer Saturday morning services are an hour or so away. I really do love the synagogue in Hagerstown, but I hate going out on Friday nights, and my night vision stinks for driving. I dunno what to do, but I guess I'll figure it out eventually. :)

If they're Conservative I would be quite surprised if they don't have Saturday-morning services.

Good luck in finding the right congregation. Just do your best, and eventually it will work out. Any chance of finding a "service buddy", someone who will go with you on Friday nights (and maybe do most of the driving so you don't have to)?

[Current Music |tv - abc soaps]

From [info]htownclone - "According to studies, your sexual identity is revealed by the first letter of your first name." ... Personally, I'm just really glad that my first name isn't Norah.

For my original first name:

-G- You are fastidious, seeking perfection within yourself and your lover. You respond to a lover who is your intellectual equal or superior, and one who can enhance your status. You are sensuous and know how to reach the peak of erotic stimulation, because you work at it meticulously. You can be extremely active sexually that is, when you find the time. Your duties and responsibilities take precedence over everything else. You may have difficulty getting emotionally close to a lover, but no trouble getting close sexually.

For the first name that I use:

-R- You are a no-nonsense, action-oriented individual. You need someone who can keep pace with you and who is your intellectual equal, the smarter the better. You are turned on more quickly by a great mind than by a great body. However, physical attractiveness is very important to you. You have to be proud of your partner. You are privately very sexy, but you do not beg, you are willing to serve as teacher. Sex is important; you can be a very demanding playmate.

-A- You are not particularly romantic, but you are interested in action. You mean business. With you, what you see is what you get. You have no patience for flirting and can't be bothered with someonewho is trying to be coy, cute, demure, and subtly enticing. You arean up front person. When it comes to sex, it's action that counts notobscure hints. Your mate's physical attractiveness is important to you. You find the chase and challenge of the "hunt" invigorating. You are passionate and sexual as well as being much more adventurous than you appear; however, you do not go around advertising these qualities. Your physical needs are your primary concern.

-B- You give off vibes of lazy sensuality. You enjoy being romanced, wined, and dined. You are very happy to receive gifts as an statement of the affection of your lover. You want to be pampered and know how to pamper your mate. You are private in your statement of endearments and particularly when it comes to lovemaking. You will hold off until everything meets with your approval. You can control your appetite and abstain from sex if need be. You require new sensations and experiences. You are willing to experiment.

-C- You are a very social individual, and it is important to you to have a relationship. You require closeness and togetherness. You must be able to talk to your sex partner before, during, and after. You want the object of your affection to be socially acceptable and good looking. You see your lover as a friend and companion. You are very sexual and sensual, needing someone to appreciate and almost worship you. When this cannot be achieved, you have the ability to go for long periods without sexual activity. You are an expert at controlling your desires and doing without.

-D- Once you get it into your head that you want someone, you move full steam ahead in pursuit. You do not give up your quest easily. You are nurturing and caring If someone has a problem, this turns you on. You are highly sexual, passionate, loyal, and intense in your involvement, sometimes possessive and jealous. Sex to you is a pleasure to be enjoyed. You are stimulated by the eccentric and unusual, having a free and open.

-E- Your greatest need is to talk. If your date is not a good listener, you have trouble relating. A person must be intellectually stimulating or you are not interested sexually. You need a friend for a lover and a companion for a bedmate. You hate disharmony and disruption, but you do enjoy a good argument once in a while it seems to stir things up. You flirt a lot, for the challenge is more important than the sexual act for you, but once you give your heart away, you are uncompromisingly loyal. When you don't have a good lover to fall asleep with, you will fall asleep with a good book. (Sometimes, in fact, you prefer a good book.)

-F- You are idealistic and romantic, putting your lover on a pedestal. You look for the very best mate you can find. You are a flirt, yet once committed, you are very loyal. You are sensuous, sexual, and privately passionate. Publicly, you can be showy, extravagant, and gallant. You are born romantic. Dramatic love scenes are your favorite fantasy pastime. You can be a very generous lover.

-H- You seek a mate who can enhance your reputation and earning ability. You will be very generous to your lover once you have attained a commitment. Your gifts are actually an investment in your partner. Before the commitment, though, you tend to be frugal in your spending and dating habits and equally cautious in your sexual involvement. You are a sensual and patient lover.

-I- You have a great need to be loved, appreciated...Even worshipped.. You enjoy luxury, sensuality, and pleasures of the flesh. You look for lovers who know what they are doing. You are not interested in an amateur, unless that amateur wants a tutor. You are fussy and exacting about having your desires satisfied. You are willing to experiment and try new modes of sexual statement. You bore easily and thus require sexual adventure and change. You are more sensual than sexual, but you are sometimes downright lustful.

-J- You can be very romantic, attached to the glamour of love. Having a partner is of paramount importance to you. You are free in your statement of love and are willing to take chances, try new sexual experiences and partners, provided it's all in good taste. Brains turn you on. You must feel that your partner is intellectually stimulating, otherwise you will find it difficult to sustain the relationship. You require loving, cuddling, wining and dining to know that you're being appreciated.

-K- You are totally f**king marvelous!

-L- You are very romantic, idealistic, and somehow you believe that to love means to suffer. You wind up serving your mate or attracting people who have unusual troubles. You see yourself as your lover's savior. You are sincere, passionate, lustful, and dreamy. You can't help falling in love. You fantasize and get turned on by movies and magazines. You do not tell others of this secret life, nor of your sexual fantasies.

-M- You are emotional and intense. When involved in a relationship, you throw your entire being into it. Nothing stops you; there are no holds barred. You are all consuming and crave someone who is equally passionate and intense. You believe in total sexual freedom. You are willing to try anything and everything. Your supply of sexual energy is inexhaustible. You also enjoy mothering your mate.

-N- You are crap in bed.

-O- You are very interested in sexual activities yet secretive and shy about your desires. You can re-channel much of your sexual energy into making money and/or seeking power. You can easily have extended periods of celibacy. You are a passionate, compassionate, sexual lover, requiring the same qualities from your mate. Sex is serious business; thus you demand intensity diversity, and are willing to try anything or anyone. Sometimes your passions turn to possessiveness, which must be kept in check.

-P- You are very conscious of social proprieties. You wouldn't think of doing anything that might harm your image or reputation. Appearances count, therefore, you require a good-looking partner. You also require an intelligent partner. Oddly enough, you may view your partner as your enemy; a good fight stimulates those sex vibes. You are relatively free of sexual hang-ups. You are willing to experiment and try new ways of doing things. You are very social and sensual; you enjoy flirting and need a good deal of physical gratification.

-Q- You require constant activity and stimulation. You have tremendous physical energy. It is not easy for a partner to keep up with you, sexually or otherwise. You are an enthusiastic lover and tend to be attracted to people of other ethnic groups. You need romance, hearts and flowers, and lots of conversation to turn you on and keep you going.

-R- Yow are a no-nonsense, action-oriented individual. You need someone who can keep pace with you and who is your intellectual equal the smarter the better. You are turned on more quickly by a great mind than by a great body. However, physical attractiveness is very important to you. You have to be proud of your partner. You are privately very sexy, but you do not beg, you are willing to serve as teacher. Sex is important; you can be a very demanding playmate.

-S- You are secretive, self-contained, and shy. You are very sexy, sensual and passionate, but you do not let on to this. Only in intimate privacy will this past of your nature reveal itself. When it gets down to the nitty-gritty, you are an expert. You know all the little tricks of the trade, can play any role or any game, and take your love life very seriously. You don't fool around. You have the patience to wait for the right person to come along.

-T- You are very sensitive, private, and sexually passive; you like a partner who takes the lead. Music, soft lights and romantic thoughts turn you on. You fantasize but do not tend to fall in and out of love easily. When in love, you are romantic, idealistic, mushy and extremely intense. You enjoy having your senses and your feelings stimulated, titillated, and teased. You are a great flirt. You can make your relationships fit your dreams, often times all in your own head.

-U- You are enthusiastic and idealistic when in love. When not in love, you are in love with love, always looking for someone to adore. You see romance as a challenge. You are a roamer and need adventure, excitement, and freedom. You deal in potential relationships. You enjoy giving gifts and enjoy seeing your mate looking good. Your sex drive is strong and you desire instant gratification. You are willing to put your partner's pleasures above your own.

-V- You are individualistic, and you need freedom, space, and excitement. You wait until you know someone well before committing yourself. Knowing someone means psyching him out. You feel a need to get into his head to see what makes him tick. You are attracted to eccentric types. Often there is an age difference between you and your lover. You respond to danger, thrills and suspense. The gay scene turns you on even though you yourself may not be a participant.

-W- You are very proud, determined, and you refuse to take no for an answer when pursuing love. Your ego is at stake. You are romantic, idealistic and often in love with love itself, not seeing your partner as he or she really is. You feel deeply and throw all of yourself into your relationships.. Nothing is too good for your lover. You enjoy playing love games.

X- You need constant stimulation because you bore quickly. You can handle more than one relationship at a time with ease. You can't shut off your mind. You talk while you make love. You can have the greatest love affairs, all by yourself, in your own head.

-Y- You are sexual, sensual, and very independent. If you can't have it your way, you will forgo the whole thing. You want to control your relationships, which doesn't always work out too well. You respond to physical stimulation, enjoy necking and spending hours just touching, feeling and exploring. However, if you can spend your time making money, you will give up the pleasures of the flesh for the moment. You need to prove to yourself and your partner what a great lover you are. You want feedback on your performance. You are an open, stimulating, romantic bedmate.

-Z- For you, it is business before pleasure. If you are in any way bothered by career, business, or money concerns, you find it very hard to relax and get into the mood. You can be romantically idealistic to a fault and are capable of much sensuality. But you never lose control of your emotions. You are very careful and cautious before you give your heart away and your body, for that matter. Once you make the commitment, though, you stick like glue.

I think I'm going to try to crochet a hat for Rusty today. Known problems include:

  • My short attention span.
  • I'm working without a pattern, since none of the patterns are written in English.
  • My habit of wanting to do things perfectly, immediately, without experience or practice.
  • All of the non-purple yarn that I own is fuzzy textured yarn, hard to work with.
  • I really suck at crochet.

But other than that, I'm good to go.

Hmm... I'm thinking of yarn suggestions...

My absolute favorite yarn right now is called Lamb's Pride. It's merino wool and mohair, and it's a single. Singles are good, because you can't split the plies, which I hate. Problem is, you'd need to order it online or find a local yarn store, because the chain stores never have it.

Hmm..Ooh. Okay. You have a Michael's, right. Try Wool-Ease chunky or thick & quick. T & Q is HUGE yarn and you'll have a hat in no time at all. You'd need like a N hook though.

This would be easier if you knit :P I CAN crochet, I just don't particularly like it. It really kills my wrists.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/22/2003 9:13:27 AM

Is Lamb's Pride a brand, or a type by another brand? I would love a single-type yarn, as I ALWAYS split the plies.

I DO have a skein of Lion's Brand Chenielle "Thick and Quick" and an N hook! I actually have TWO skeins, one purple (mine) and one black (for Rusty). Problem is, I have trouble seeing where I'm going with the dark yarn.

I also have Red Heart "Plush" in two different shades of green (both shades that Rusty likes). The olive green is also dark and hard to see the stitches, but I haven't tried the lighter (sage) green yet.

I wish I COULD knit, but I can't, so there. :-P

http://www.brownsheep.com/yarns.html

It's made by a company called Brown Sheep. It comes in worsted weight, bulky (my favorite), and superwash. Superwash wool is treated to make it machine washable, but I like the regular, because it felts. I'm obsessed with felting, lately.

Chenielle.... is hard to work with. I'm supposed to make a hat with it, and I keep putting it off because it feels so funny.

Huh? What is felt, as a verb? ::: I'm so confused!!! :::

Will look at the Brown Sheep stuff. Is "bulky" hard to work with? Chenielle freaks me out; it's so fuzzy, I can't see what I'm doing. :\
From: [info]blairmaru
Date: 11/22/2003 4:28:35 PM

Bulky is easier to work with, it goes faster!

Have you ever accidentally threw a 100% wool sweater in the washer and came out with something half the size and all matted together? that's felting. You knit something extra big on bigger needles than the yarn calls for and then throw it in the washer on the hottest setting and it shrinks and the fibers mesh together and it becomes a solid fabric.

I made this, in a different yarn, a few weeks ago:

Heheh. I saw it twice then. And then the year after that we had a new Drama teacher at my HS, and he thought he'd be all cool and mysterious and have us do this play, but most of us had already seen it. Halfway through he got sick of us talking about one of the other performances we'd seen and scrapped the whole thing.
Then, in college, my friend Damon [info]picnicman, thought he'd picked a play no one had ever heard of for his senior project. And I said "Oh yeah, The Serpent!"

I hate crochet. IhateitIhateitIhateit. I really fucking hate it.

I'm still trying to make a scarf for Rusty. Now, I think I could do it if I used a cheap acrylic yarn in a pastel colour. Black cheneille, however - something that he'd actually wear - is not working out. I can barely make the fucking chain stitch with cheneille, and once I do, I can't see the stitches to make the next row. Thick and Quick, my ass. It's Thick and Impossible.

The only acrylic yarn I have is light purple, dark purple, varigated purple, and pink - none of which are really appropriate. I have two skeins of "Red Heart Plush" in olive green and sage green, which would be fine colour-wise, but they're basically just a thinner cheneille, so I've got my doubts as to whether it would be any easier to work with. I hate crochet.

One should not have hobbies that entail crying and punching things so early in the morning.

Looks like your starting chain is a bit tight (because it's narrower at the bottom). The edges looking like that aren't too uncommon when working with dc. You'll be sewing up those sides anyway so it won't really matter. Otherwise, most people put an edging (like a row of sc) around an item as a "border".

Are you remembering to put a dc in the last ch of the previous row? Like how you probably ch3 at the beginning of a row, work the row, ch3, then work back - you should have a dc in that #3 ch of the previous row.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/25/2003 8:52:49 AM

Speak English, woman! ;)

I'm not sure, I'll have to do another row, and see if I'm doing that or not. I'm not working with a pattern or anything, because that just confused me more.

It's so funky and crooked; I hope I can still stitch up the sides okay. Assuming I ever get to that point (I'm SO slow), do I use like a whipstitch, or what?
From: [info]sioranth
Date: 11/25/2003 8:56:02 AM

I might be better off speaking Swahili this morning, brain is still a little biffy heh

You really don't need a pattern with something like that anyway :)

I usually use whipstich for stuff like that (because I am too damn lazy to make a big deal out of it). Or I use an arrowhead stitch (that's like whip, but your needle comes up through the loop of thread on the opposite side). Then I turn it inside out so the seam stitching is on the inside.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/25/2003 9:01:00 AM

I turn it inside out so the seam stitching is on the inside.

Oh, that's an awesome idea, I never thought of that! I'll make sure to pick the better side, with that in mind.

I want to add tassles, too, like the Fraggle Hat.
From: [info]sioranth
Date: 11/25/2003 9:07:32 AM

Tassels are super easy to make (much easier than pompoms) Fiber-Images has a good tutorial (with pics)

In their tutorial they have you wrap the some yarn about an inch below the top (you'll see what I mean) I didn't do that for the fraggle hat I made.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/25/2003 9:08:43 AM

Awesome! Do you just sew them onto the corners?
From: [info]sioranth
Date: 11/25/2003 9:11:20 AM

Yup, I just take the 2 loose ends (from tying the top) and sew both of them into the corners by threading through a row or two of crochet (work it back & forth, make sure it's tight) Alternately, you could tie the loose ends into a tight knot on the inside & then just weave in the ends to keep them out of the way.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/25/2003 9:15:53 AM

tie the loose ends into a tight knot on the inside

I think I'll try this; that sounds more secure, and I'm hell on hats.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/25/2003 8:55:34 AM

PS - yeah, my starting rows were WAY tighter than when I got up to the DC part. I don't know if I'm getting better, or holding it differently, or because it's a different stitch, or what, but it's A LOT easier to work with now that it's looser.
From: [info]sioranth
Date: 11/25/2003 8:57:05 AM

Easiest way to fix that is use a size or two bigger hook to make your starting chain, then switch over to the size you're supposed to be using.

Date: 11/26/2003 9:36:29 AM

Thanks! Yeah, it's just a crochetted rectangle, stitched up the sides, and then turned inside out to hide my crappy stitching job, with tassels sewn on the corners. I kinda over-estimated the size of my head, but it's cool, because it doesn't squish my hair so much as the hats that actually fit. :)

It's Thanksgiving, the day where we celebrate the slaughter of the Native Americans. As a holiday, it annoys me, but since Rusty seems to have some sort of Norman Rockwell delusions, I'm trying. Apparently turkey is the appropriate way to commemorate genocide.

YaaaaaaaaAAAAAAyyyyy genocide!

But then, food is good.

Thanksgiving bugs me. I mean really, if the Germans commemorated the Holocaust with an annual feast, people would be seriously riled up. But for some reason, everyone thinks that Thanksgiving is great, because we shared food with the Native Americans before we slaughtered them and stole their land. Hmph.

But yeah, the stuffing is good.

As far as holidays go, it's all sorts of wrong. Columbus Day is worse, though.

Thanksgiving turned out surprisingly well. We watched the Macy's parade and then just spent a quiet day together. I fixed "the big dinner" for the first time ever: roasted chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, rolls, and pumpkin and apple pies for desert. It was pretty nice, but I'm really glad that it's over.

I know! The washing up is the worst part! And if you have a really huge dinner with tons of guests, it can take days and days to clean all that junk. Yuck.

I can't imagine "tons of guests" ... this was just for three people and I swear thet every pot, pan, and dish I own was dirty. Bah.

I got my hair trimmed and styled this morning. I look like a friggen mall rat, or one of Prince's backup singers, or something. It's still that ungawdly shade of bleach blonde, but now it looks like a brillo pad gone bad. It isn't a perm, just the natural curl, but usually we try to minimize such things, not put crap on my hair to emphasize the mess! Yuck. And she used hairspray on it too, which I despise. Usually Rhonda is really good, but this is a disaster.

they always style it so different than what we're comfortable with. it's so scary going to get hair done.
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 11/28/2003 1:06:52 PM

It really is scary. And I always tell her that I don't DO anything to my hair other than wash and brush it, and not to do anything that requires mousse, gel, spray, irons, or blowdryers... but she always ignores that part. It's like they MUST do something to it, even if you won't. :\
From: [info]kimikohime

yes! And that always happens to me, and later if I try to replicate the style, it looks horrid. >_<
From: [info]purple_stardust

Yeah. Mine always looks really good the day I have it done, and horrid for the following eight weeks. What part of "I don't do anything to my hair!" do these people not understand?!?

Yikes! I know the 80s are s'posed to be fashionable again, but it looks like your stylist went a tiny bit overboard! Have you managed to tame it?
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 12/3/2003 6:07:14 PM

I only managed to brush it yesterday, and natually yanked half of it out. I tried to tame down the frizz with a bit of water, but as soon as it got damp, it got all crazy-curly again! :\

Rusty and I were discussing an upcoming New Years Eve party.

Rus: Do you want to go?
Ren: No, not really.
Rus: Because if you want to go, I'll go.
Ren: Do YOU want to go?
Rus: No. But if YOU want to go, I'll go.
Ren: I don't don't want to make you go if you don't want to go to.
Rus: Well, it's not that I don't *want* to go. If you want to go, I'll go.

No wonder we never go anywhere.
