Rusty is home today (rained out), so I am accomplishing nothing around the house. I need to go out to get groceries later, and if someone brings me money, I may go to the local fish store and see if they have an emerald crab or any nice star polyps. Such an exciting life I lead...

So I went to the LFS last night to look for an emerald crab, but they had none... so I bought a lavendar colt coral and some more mushrooms. The 'shroom rock turned out not to be a rock at all, but a giant sea squirt of some sort! I told Vern he could have it, so I'm going to remove the mushrooms and take Big Ugly to Reef Camp in June. More 'shroom fragging fun!

I dragged out the old Eclipse 3 yesterday and Rusty cleaned it out. I think I'm going to try to find better lighting for it and use it as a frag tank. My Nano-Cube is starting to look cluttered with the monster colt and all the tulle-covered shroom rocks. I think I'll go ahead and set it up with the old crushed coral substrate and tank water, so that by the time I find and install the new lights, it should already be cycled. Yes, it's an exciting life that I lead.

Two of the three striped shroom pieces seem to have attached, but they're still wrapped in tulle, waiting for the third one. The two red mushrooms that came off of Vern's sea squirt seem to be attached, as do the ruffley shrooms that are sharing the rocks with them, so I removed the tulle from them. The largest red one was fairly unruly its first night here, and tried to escape into a deep cravice, so I'm hoping that it stays put. A rogue mushroom; who knew.

In other news, Val says that my "colt" coral looks more like Capnella to her. Good deal!

It is rumoured to be my 35th birthday... however, it is actually Purple PJ's & Pigtails Day, and I celebrated appropriately. Rusty bought me a cake and Godiva ice cream, a really sweet card and a bunch of flower bulbs (gladiolus, liatris, and dahlias), and my mom got me a jigsaw puzzle and something which hasn't been delivered yet(!). So anyway, I'm old, but relatively content with it.

Of course, in the middle of Purple PJ's & Pigtails Day, my neighbour stopped by and I had to try to explain that it was my birthday, at which point Rusty yelled "She's lying - her birthday was in Febuary!" ...she probably thinks that one or both of us is insane now, but that's okay.

* My itty-bitty shroom bits seem to be full-fledged mushrooms now - they're rounded out and attached to the liverock, and they open and close and move like real mushrooms. The stem that they were cut from still has no colour, but its mouth has grown back and it moves. Coolness!

* The mother capnella is doing great, but the frags are still reluctant to open their polyps. I asked Vern about it; he said they would have disintigrated already if they were going to die.

* My shrimps have been spending more time togethr; I wonder if they're a "pair" now? They're little heathens, I know that much! If they don't leave my purple feather duster alone, I'm going to eat them both. They're really cool when they're not picking at the feather duster, though.

* Today: I broke up some of the new live rock pieces and cut more capnella frags. I now have a little capnella frag farm. I hope the new frag tank cycles soon; I'm running out of room in the Nano-Cube. I also cut the 'shrooms off of Vern's seasquirt; now THAT was scary.

We took the kids up to see my grandmother. My younger son asked if her cat was a boy or a girl, and she said neither. Christopher was understandably confused, so she told him that the cat had been neutered... so of course he had to ask what that meant. She stammered and meandered with a definition, until finally I said "they cut off his nuts!" ... I think he was appropriately horrified.

Anyway, we're finally home, and it's time for video games and leftover KFC.

It should be noted that Rusty is my hero for fixing the hose on the washing machine. It's been leaking ever since we've had it, we finally found/fixed the problem. It fills much more quickly now, not to mention how nice it is to do laundry without having to mop up puddles on the floor.

Also, I hate this jigsaw puzzle that I'm working on now. It's a nice enough picture of various animals, but it's one of those damn "Borders" puzzles, and it's making me completely insane. Really, I like a challenge as much as the next girl, but real edge pieces would be tres helpful.

Most of my boyfriends have topped the 6' mark. And I've always got the impression from film footage that he's under that.

Oh, and don't get me wrong on the Jewish thing - I just don't think it'd be too conducive to domestic harmony though! Mostly for dietary reasons, I must admit. And the hassle over keeping a kashric kitchen. My friend Kathryn [info]ewtikins is converting to Judaism, and for simplicity's sake she made a household rule that vegetarianism would be practiced; she's being driven nuts by a new housemate, Aviva, who is also Jewish but incredibly slapdash about keeping Kosher and keeping the kitchen kashric - and refuses to give up meat. She'll make a salt beef sandwich on the same table where Kathryn is making a vegetarian lasagne, and then wonder why Kathryn is freaking out about the beef being on the same table as the cheese.

Kathryn did ask me if I wanted to move in, but I can't live vegetarian - and I didn't want to risk inadvertantly messing up. I don't want my dietary choices to affect my friendship with her.

I'm not sure how tall Art is, I just know he seems REALLY tall next to Paul Simon (who is freakishly short).

For some reason - and I'm not sure why - I don't think he keeps kosher... which is fine with me. I dont keep strict kosher, but I do occasionally eat meat, tho I try to not to eat anything blatantly awful (I eat tukey bacon or pepperoni instead of the pork versions, for example). Vegetarian is the way to go, if you can do it, but I'm not quite there yet.

What is "salt beef", by the by?
From: [info]arkady
Date: 4/17/2004 3:45:50 PM

It's similar to corned beef, yet slightly different - hmm, hard to describe unless you've tasted it. There's a good recipe for it here; you cab get it in delis as well. It's basically beef that's been preserved with salt and spices before cooking, then serving cold in slices.

I don't like any of those answers. His hair is freakishly curly, but other than that ... I don't care if he's Jewish if he could forgive me for being German and Swiss. ;)

So my mother calls me late last night. Apparently, the lesbians need something from their computer, which is at my house, against my will. Fine, I say. So I get up at the ass-crack this morning and I drag down my extra monitor from upstairs, which is really heavy, hook up the perepherils (includiing the mouse from MY computer!) because you know, this is urgent. I find Susan's ever-so-valuable PrintShop documents, burn to CD. Because I'm real helpful like that.

This morning, my mother emails me - they'll be here 1-1:30pm to pick up their stuff. NO. So they call at 2pm; they'll be late (no kidding?). They email again to say never mind; they'll be here tomorrow. I emailed back to say I was leaving the CD on the front porch; damned if I'm going to spend ANOTHER day waiting for these people to show up - or not - for this "urgent" info.

So sick of this. Really I am.

We visited my grandmother, then stopped at the bank to open a savings account for Sarah. Afterwards, we went to Target, where I bought a new cooler (to be painted purple!) to haul corals and such, and then onto Petsmart for rat food and other boring neccessities...

Then we stopped at the LFS, where I bought some awesome purple and green ricordia and two more hermit crabs. Best of all, I got a hell of a deal on the ricordia, as the fish guy apparently thought they were regular mushrooms! I've been wanting some for a while, so this is good.

I hate the DMV. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. I need to get my license renewed, but I can't do that because my address has changed, and I can't prove that I live where I say I do. I have a whole purse full of things with my name and address on them, but apparently, those aren't the right things. Because apparently, people often get checks made with other peoples' addresses printed on them, and banks mail them stuff at said address, and they have proof of insurance for that address, but they might not actually live there. And let me tell you, DMV haglets, if I was gonna try to steal a person's identity, it sure as hell wouldn't be mine! So there. Anyway...

After the DMV incident, I went to Michaels, where I bought stuff to make a wreath for the front door, as well as some new scrapbook stuff, which I really need to start doing again.

I picked Rusty up from work this evening, and we stopped at Office Max for graph paper (I measured the back yard and I want to draw it out so we can plan where to plant stuff), and finally Dairy Queen for some much-needed Buster Bars. Home now, hooray!!!

Yesterday, Mojo died for no apparent reason. He'd gotten sick (though not terribly) over the weekend, and yesterday he had what a appeared to be a small seizure (or a stroke?) and died right in front of me. As much as I feel horrible about losing Mojo, I am even more freaked out that there could be something poisonous or some disease that could kill all the other cats, too.

I was supposed to take stuff up to my grandmother today, but she ended up going to the ER instead... Louise (the lady who checks in on her) found her laying in the floor, no idea for how long. She was fairly incoherant, according to my uncle, so we have no idea what happened. She can't see well at all, so I am wondering if you took the wrong medication, or too much of it.

This has been a terrible horrible no-good very-bad week, and it's only Tuesday.

It sounds more as if your grandmother has had a stroke; that would account for the incoherance.

I'm really sorry to hear about Mojo. Have you considered perhaps getting the vet to autopsy him? Obviously it won't do anything to bring poor Mojo back, but perhaps it will set your mind at ease about your other cats.

Also, Val found the coolest rose: Jackson & Perkins Purple Tiger. It matches my website. Clearly, I must have it. I'm not even that "into" roses, but this one is really freakin cool.

I've washed five loads of Sarah's old baby clothes today, and I still have several loads left. This is depressing as hell; a) that Sarah isn't a baby any more, and b) she never even got a chance to wear some of this stuff. It's so little and pink and cute. I want another baby girl.

In other news, my capnella frags are sticking nicely now that I removed the rubber bands, and all but two of my mushrooms have attached. I still need to break up the ricordia rock. The mini PC bulbs that I ordered should be here tomorrow, and then the frag tank will be ready for use! This is a good thing, because the Nano-Cube is starting to look really crowded.
