He had his follow-up visit with the vet today. His fecal float was negative (no more coccidia), and Erick said that his belly felt good. Oh, and he's up to three pounds since last week. Yay!

Geez I suck at updating anymore. Not much as been going on here... watched the Republican National Convention, that's always a hoot. My thoughts on some of the speakers:

* Zel Miller: The cheese has clearly slid off this guy's cracker. Craaazy. He's the kind of guy, when they find 47 dismembered women in his cellar, people will wonder why we never saw that coming. Also, he said that Kerry was a great guy and then he said he only said that because they told him to say it. Now he says that Bush is a great guy. Apparently, he will say anything. Freak.

* Dick Cheney: Boooring. Seriously, even the GOP groupies were having a hard time cheering.

* Arnold Shwartzenegger: This guy needs to decide if he wants to be an actor or a politician. Really, the Terminator and girlie-man references are getting seriously cheesey.

* The Bush Twins: If you want to make a point about how un-hip your grandmother is, would it not be more effective to reference a TV show that was still on the air? And also, please don't talk about sex and your grandmother in the same sentance, it's just gross.

* Rudy Guiliani: I used to respect this man, I really did. But when he said that he and the NYC police commisioner were standing there in the rubble on September 11, and he said "Thank G-d George Bush is our president", I lost that respect. Really, you expect us to believe that in the wake of this horrific tragedy, your thoughts were political? That you had the where-with-all to be considering the potential leadership of a president who had been in office for less than a year, and despite that he'd done basically nothing so far, you decided - in that split second - that he would do a fine job of guiding our country through this crisis. Umm, yeah. Sure you did.

Of course, I am convinced that the conventions are a complete waste of time. I think that most people have decided by the primaries who they're going to vote for in the general election, so now it's just a matter of waiting to see if one of the candidates royally screws up.

I agree with the first half of your post and your analysis of these characters. You really hit the nail on the head with each person - especially Guiliani. I was VERY disheartened to see him politicize 9/11 that like. Make me ill actually.

But the second half is a little off. I am 33 years old and I have been a Republican for 32 of those years. I voted for Bush I, Dole, and Bush II in the Presidential Elections. I have voted for Republican Governors here in Jersey. But after being so disheartened by Bush's policies over the past 3 1/2 years, I decided to watch the democratic primaries VERY closely. I walked away from them supporting John Edwards and deciding that I was going to support him all the way to the White House. Of course we now know it's John Kerry and John Edwards. After Kerry won the nomination, I went back and re-examined Kerry and Bush and have still decided that I am voting Democrat this year and voting for Kerry.

Also remember that up until the past 2 months, a lot of people didn't really even know who John Kerry was since 98% of Americans don't follow the primaries.

My point? If someone like me can be swayed, how many others might be swayed as well?

Just my 2 cents :)
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 9/8/2004 12:49:01 PM

Interesting. Okay, I'll stand corrected. :) I guess because WE follow politics so closely, I assume that everyone else does, too. For what it's worth, I am also a registered Republican. I wasn't a GW fan to begin with, however, and now I am completely disgusted with him. =\

Blip is Rusty's weird little uppy-eared bunny (AKA black silver marten netherland dwarf). Both of them are little babies. Both of them are pedigreed. Both of us are suckers.

[Current Music |tv - pbs kiddie shoes]

I took Buster to see Dr Campbell this morning. I was becoming increasingly paranoid that he was breathing too hard and drinking too much. He'd had an appointment with our regular vet on the 27th, but I decided that while Buster might be okay until the 27th, but *I* would never make it.

The good news is, he does NOT have pasteurella, pneumonia, heart disease, kidney stones, or renal failure like I had managed to convince myself of.

The bad news is, he DOES have mites, coccidia, and a vagina.

She gave him (her) a shot of Ivomec and prescribed 21-31 days of Albon. She also said that the excessive drinking is because of the coccidia, and that the harder breathing is probably caused by the mites. He (she) will be going back in three weeks for another check-up and fecal.

LOLOLOLOL, im sorry to hear about the mites & coccidia BUT the vagina part cracked me up. If you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost to run all those tests?
From: [info]purple_stardust
Date: 9/15/2004 5:48:57 PM

The total came to $99:

$38 for the exam
$17 for the fecal flotation
$14 for the shot of Ivomec
$22.50 for the Albon
$7.50 for the flea powder

That was in Purcellville VA, so your milage may vary. My general vet (in Winchester VA) only charges $25 for the visit and $10 for the fecal float, but he isn't nearly so experienced with bunnies. My regular exotics vet (in Charles Town WV) charges $18 for the fecal float.

You know, I never realised how often I could use the word "fecal" in everyday conversation. lol

How many times can this really happen? lol ... I wonder though - she said that his testicles would have been there by now (at 11 weeks) but I thought they didn't drop until 3-4 months old?

I am actually in Martinsburg WV - about 15 minutes north of Winchester VA, which is up in the "point". I'm about an hour's drive from Purcellville.

* clean up around desk
* scrub buster's cage and pen
* fix water bottles on baby cages
* clean bea's and baby cages
* organise new beads

I also need to work on my saltwater tanks, but I really want to get my desk cleaned up and the bunnies moved first, to make them more easily accessible. And as much as I hate it, I think I'm going to have to move the NanoCube back into the dining room. I really need to get better lights for the 65-gallon so I can move the rest of the corals in, and use the NanoCube as a frag tank.

There are bunnies and bunny paraphenalia everywhere... things will be better when Buster is better and the babies are neutered, so that I can start bonding at least pairs. Rusty eventually wants all of the bunnies to have free run of the house, but I would settle for two bonded pairs, and having only two cages instead of four. I think I am going to try to bond Bea with Blip, and Buster with Binky. I set Blip's cage next to Bea's pen, and she flopped out next to it last night.

Loftier goals include cleaning and organising the pantry, straightening and cleaning the kitchen, moving the rest of the less-used craft stuff upstairs, and unpacking the boxes in the hallway.

One of these days, I may actually get my shit together...

I have a cold and my nose is stopped up and my throat hurts and I'm coughing my fool head off and I feel like crap and you're all very lucky that you don't have to deal with me on a personal basis because I am altogether a whiney crabby bitch today. And also, I never catch colds so I don't have any cold stuff around the house, and so I ended up taking five children's chewable cold tablets, and I swear I will never again tell my kids to take them, they taste good. These things are so foul, so nasty, I seriously wondered for a moment if the cats had pissed on them, until I realised that they were hermetically sealed. Grape flavour, my ass. It might be cat piss flavour, or foot fungus flavour, or maybe even rancid meat flavour, but grape flavour, it is not.

In other news, my new rabbit book has still not arrived, and that annoys me, too. The seller sent me an email last Wednesday saying that it had shipped, but I still have not gotten it. Dammit. =(

And my DSL is out. The possibility exists that I screwed something up while cleaning around my desk last night, but I have checked all the connections and everything is plugged in and all the lights are coming on... but no DSL. So I am connecting with my ex-husband's AOL account. It's better than nothing, but dial-up seems SO horrifically slow once you've had DSL or cable. Blah.

I really should work on cleaning up this dump, but instead I think I'm going to flop out on the sofa and play video games or watch soap operas or something of equivalent mental strain.

It's Sarah's 4th birthday! We got her a Barbie B-Bright Laptop, so I wrapped that this morning. Still need to bake a cake, and make her special Birthday Girl hat. This is the first birthday that she really understands the concept that it's her special day, so we're making a big deal of it. I can't believe how fast she's growing up; I miss her being a little baby. :(

In Neopian news, I put my Faerie Harris up for trade yesterday. I am trying to get a Cybunny Transmogrification Potion so I can turn my Skeith into a Cybunny. Because clearly I neeeed a Cybunny, and they're Limited Edition and nearly impossible to find at the pound. Bah. I'm also seriously thinking about looking for a new guild. The one that I'm in now is cool in that all the members are adults, but on the other hand, they don't really DO anything, either. I dunno.

Right, then. Off to bake that cake.

Sarah and I went shopping today! We went to Petsmart to get food and hay for the bunnies, and then we stopped at the "Everything's $1" store and bought a few toys for her, a tiny broom and dustpan for the smaller bunny cages, and two new slinkies for Buster. After that, we stopped at the craft store where we got a stepping stone kit, some beads, and stuff to make bunny toys.

I have: cotton clothesline, jute twine, raffia, two sizes of untreated wooden beads and spools, and three packs of Fun Factory beads and shapes. Oh, and several small grapevine wreathes. I think it will be fun to make some toys for them, though it will be difficult to make anything that Buster loves more than his slinkies. Silly little goober, he flings them all over the playpen. :)

Anyway, then we picked Rusty up from work, and rented two DVDs: Blue Collar Comedy Tour (I have my doubts, but the reefers insist that we must see it) and Angels in America (I'm not really sure what it's about but it stars Al Pacino and won an ass-load of Emmys, so how bad can it be).

Coming up this evening: reef chat, nachos, and Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Buster is two weeks into his course of antibiotics, and I think it's safe to say, he's feeling much better. He has a "Bunny House" cage with an attached exercise pen, and the door to his cage is left open so that he can play in the pen whenever he wants. On Sunday, he realised that he could jump from the pen onto the slanted roof of the cage, and escape. There are three problems with this: a) we're not completely bunny-proofed, b) he antagonises Beatrix, who tries to attack him, and c) I'm afraid he will get a leg stuck or something and hurt himself! So I had to make an awning of sorts, to block his access to the roof of the cage. Crazy little Houdini bunny. :)

Pfft. Sounds kinda like Boo, my sister's boyfriends new cat. She's not very old yet but she wants to get into EVERYTHING she can, including under the couch.

my little dwarf bunny was named "hon bun", but was more appropriately nicknamed "killer". she was definitely a houdini. you'd walk in the room and she'd be on top of dressers! how she did it, we never figured out. i miss her.

Awww... bunnies are a lot of fun. What is really cool, is no matter what sort of mischief they manage to get into, they're still so freakin' CUTE. They know this, too... :)

she always got away with it. every piece of furniture in that room has been marked by her chewing and it never made me mad. i would walk in and she'd look at me with those big beautiful eyes and i'd just smile. i love bunnies. honbun had so much personality.
